Ant biochemicals rapidly increase silicate dissolution under laboratory conditions
This study provides the first experimental evidence that biochemicals derived from California harvester ants directly and rapidly accelerate calcium-silicate dissolution, suggesting a significant role for ants in the global carbon cycle and potential applications for bioengineered CO2 mitigation.
