Late-season flow recovery and trough-aligned subsidence reveal coexisting subglacial drainage components beneath the western Greenland Ice Sheet

By applying Sentinel-1 SAR interferometry to the western Greenland Ice Sheet, this study reveals that late-season ice flow recovery and trough-aligned subsidence are driven by coexisting weakly connected and well-connected subglacial drainage components, respectively, highlighting the critical role of bed troughs in storing and releasing meltwater well after surface melting ceases.

Arctic-wide freshwater outburst from the Baltic Ice Lake contributed to the onset of Preboreal cooling

This study uses high-resolution sedimentary records from the southwestern Barents Sea to demonstrate that a major freshwater outburst from the Baltic Ice Lake around 11.5 to 11 thousand years ago triggered widespread Arctic cooling, sea-ice expansion, and ocean circulation changes during the onset of the Preboreal period.

Mining Hazardous Waste, Acid Mine Drainage, and Their Combined Environmental and Social Impacts in the Democratic Republic of Congo: A Systematic Review

This systematic review synthesizes evidence from 48 sources to demonstrate that decades of industrial and artisanal mining in the DRC's Katanga region have generated severe acid mine drainage and hazardous waste, causing metal concentrations in water and soil to far exceed WHO guidelines while exposing vulnerable communities, particularly women and children, to significant health risks amidst a critical gap between environmental regulations and enforcement.

Machine Learning Prediction of Early-Season Wildfire Risk in Ghana’s Guinea Savannah Using Multi-Source Data and CMIP6 Climate Scenarios

This study develops and evaluates a high-performing machine learning prototype for predicting early-season wildfire risk in Ghana's Guinea Savannah by integrating multi-source environmental and human data, demonstrating superior accuracy over traditional indices while offering illustrative future projections under CMIP6 climate scenarios with the caveat that it remains a research tool rather than a fully validated operational warning system.

Assessing Precipitation Memory and Operational Controls on National-Scale Reservoir Storage and Hydropower Dynamics in Türkiye

This study employs a data-efficient framework combining STL, an optimized precipitation-memory index, and VARX modeling to demonstrate that while hydro-climatic forcing drives water availability fluctuations in Türkiye's national reservoirs, institutional operational management ultimately governs how these signals persist and propagate through the water-energy system over time.

Dog Attacks on Taiwan’s Native Mammals: Potential Risk Areas, Key Drivers, and Conservation Gaps

This study integrates attack records and species distribution models to map high-risk areas for dog attacks on five native Taiwanese mammals, revealing that threats are concentrated in low-to-mid elevation human-wildlife interface zones outside protected areas, thereby highlighting the urgent need to leverage the Taiwan Ecological Network for targeted dog control and conservation.

Integrated Seismic Attribute-petrophysical Coupling for Reservoir Quality Prediction in the “MD” Field, Onshore Niger Delta, Nigeria

This study demonstrates that integrating seismic attributes with petrophysical analysis of well logs and 3D seismic data effectively characterizes reservoir quality, delineates hydrocarbon-bearing zones within fault-controlled structures, and identifies prospective undrilled targets in the "MD" Field of the onshore Niger Delta.

The industrialisation of the seabed: Estimating century-scale impacts of bottom trawling on shelf sea sediments

This study reconstructs five centuries of British and Irish bottom trawling to reveal that by 1925, industrial fishing had mobilized sediment masses comparable to the Amazon River's annual flux, fundamentally altering seabed ecosystems and demonstrating that modern scientific baselines already reflect centuries of anthropogenic disturbance.
