Based on a 2024 analysis of over 450,000 U.S. adults, depression is an independent predictor of cost-related medication nonadherence, doubling the odds of missing prescribed drugs due to cost even after adjusting for socioeconomic factors, with income and insurance status emerging as the strongest additional drivers of this disparity.
