Nuclear tau aggregates inhibit RNA export and form by secondary seeding from cytosolic tau aggregates.
This study reveals that nuclear tau aggregates, which form via a VCP-dependent secondary seeding event from pre-existing cytoplasmic aggregates, inhibit mRNA export and disrupt nuclear RNA biogenesis, thereby contributing to tauopathy pathology.
