Puberty as a Predictor of Changes in the Dual Systems Imbalance Gap: The Moderating Role of Autism Spectrum Disorder
Using Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development data, this study finds that entering puberty significantly widens the dual systems imbalance gap (increasing sensation-seeking while decreasing impulse control) for male youth without autism, whereas this pubertal effect is attenuated in males with autism, while no significant effects were observed for female youth.
