Minijets and Broken Stationarity in a Blazar : Novel Insights into the Origin of -ray Variability in CTA 102
This paper analyzes 18 years of Fermi-LAT data for the blazar CTA 102 to demonstrate that its 2017 giant flare marked a transition from a log-normal, frequently flaring state to a more stable plateau, a phenomenon explained by magnetic relaxation and successfully reproduced by a modified minijets-in-a-jet Monte Carlo simulation.
