Larval thermogenesis: a primary catalyst of non-linear carcass decomposition
This study demonstrates that the metabolic heat generated by aggregating larval masses acts as a "carrion furnace" that significantly accelerates carcass decomposition through a self-reinforcing feedback loop, highlighting the critical need to account for this thermogenic effect to improve the accuracy of post-mortem interval estimations in forensic taphonomy.
