Microphytobenthos primary production and organic matter mineralization along the sea level gradient in a tropical mudflat
This study demonstrates that in a tropical mudflat, microphytobenthos biomass, community composition, and sediment biogeochemistry exhibit distinct zonation along the sea-level gradient, driven by factors like mangrove inputs and emersion time, which ultimately dictates the spatial variation in primary production and organic matter mineralization essential for scaling coastal ecosystem dynamics.
