Persistent Emergency Department Burden for High-Specificity Head Injury Phenotypes in Children Younger Than 2 Years Despite Rapid Birth-Cohort Contraction: A Nationwide Population-Based Trend Study in South Korea, 2016–2023
Despite a 44% decline in South Korea's under-2 population from 2016 to 2023, the emergency department burden for high-specificity pediatric head injuries remained stable, resulting in a significantly increased incidence rate and challenging the assumption that injury surveillance needs will proportionally decrease with shrinking birth cohorts.
