Scalpel Versus Monopolar Electrocautery in Reduction Mammaplasty: An Intra-Patient Comparative Study
This retrospective intra-patient comparative study of 40 patients undergoing bilateral reduction mammaplasty demonstrates that while monopolar electrocautery offers superior hemostasis and reduced bleeding compared to scalpel dissection, it is associated with higher early postoperative pain and drainage, yet yields comparable mid-term scar quality, establishing it as a reliable alternative when used with careful technique.
