Do Survey Data on Social Capital Reflect Real Facts?
This paper validates the use of survey data for measuring social capital by demonstrating meaningful correlations between self-reported survey measures and objective indicators such as blood donations, voter turnout, and newspaper reading, thereby refuting concerns that the influential literature on social capital is fundamentally flawed.
