Estimating Avian Mortality Due to Predation by Cats and Window Collisions in Sweden Using the Capture-Recapture Method

Using long-term bird ringing data and a capture-recapture approach, this study provides the first nationwide estimate for Sweden showing that while domestic cats and window collisions kill approximately 107,000 and 180,000 birds annually respectively, these anthropogenic threats pose a lower risk to overall bird populations compared to habitat degradation and other broader environmental pressures.
