By integrating 600 years of paleo-reanalysis data with extensive model simulations and future CMIP6 projections, this study identifies 1540 and 1590 as the most extreme summer heat anomalies in Central European history and demonstrates that future climate scenarios could produce even more severe heatwaves linked to North Atlantic sea surface temperature anomalies, posing significant risks to ecosystems and society.
