Clinical significance of the timing of high-output stoma onset after ileostomy: Association with stoma outlet obstruction and length of hospital stay
This prospective multicenter study reveals that while the incidence of stoma outlet obstruction (SOO) increases with the timing of high-output stoma onset, late-onset high-output stoma (occurring on or after postoperative day 6) serves as a highly specific clinical indicator of underlying SOO rather than a sensitive screening marker, correlating with significantly longer hospital stays.
