Cell-resolved cortical architecture and intercellular communication distinguish bipolar and major depressive disorders
This study utilizes a large-scale, harmonized single-nucleus transcriptomic resource of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex to demonstrate that while Major Depressive Disorder involves broad transcriptomic dysregulation and vascular-associated glial alterations, Bipolar Disorder is characterized by a distinct oligodendroglial signature and attenuated neuronal communication, revealing divergent cellular architectures that could inform future biological stratification of mood disorders.
