Mandible shape reflects ecotypic divergence and population dynamics in an Arctic carnivore: the case of the Icelandic Arctic fox
This study demonstrates that mandible shape in Icelandic Arctic foxes exhibits significant phenotypic divergence driven by ecotypic dietary differences between coastal and inland habitats, as well as by early-life population density conditions that manifest morphologically as the animals age.
