Modulation of layer II immature neurons in the neocortex of sheep kept in different environmental conditions
This study demonstrates that both stressful isolation and environmental enrichment significantly reduce the number of immature neurons in the neocortex of sheep compared to controls, likely by accelerating their maturation, thereby revealing that lifestyle factors can induce structural plasticity in the upper layers of gyrencephalic brains.
