Using data from the High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 and a life-course framework, this study analyzes how demographic, socioeconomic, and educational factors shape both high school students' aspirations to join the U.S. military and the subsequent realization of those aspirations within one year of graduation.
Analyzing PISA 2022 data across 72 economies, this study reveals that while mathematics performance generally predicts self-efficacy, seven diverse systems exhibit a significant negative deviation where high achievement fails to translate into confidence, a pattern likely driven by standardized, examination-driven curricula rather than specific cultural or regional factors.
